Close-Up: Designer Details at the Hampton Showhouse

Over Labor Day weekend, I finally had the opportunity to see the Traditional Home Hampton Designer Showhouse 2014 benefitting the Southampton Hospital.  There has been so much buzz and now I see why.  Every surface in every room of the house was detailed to the max.  Since you’ve probably seen these rooms numerous times, here are the close-up shots, trim-centric of course.

Embellished Welcome

The tour started off with a luxurious touch, a trimmed out foyer designed by The Rinfret Group. The mix of the Greek key and bullion was so pretty and it set the tone perfectly for all of the embellishing to come.

Ode to Betty Sherrill

I’m still ogling these photos as I write because this upstairs bedroom was so inspired.  Gil Walsh Interiors created an ode to the late Betty Sherrill, mixing pattern in a playful yet mannered way.  Mrs. Sherrill was a family friend and is dearly missed. She would have loved this room.

The Greek key tape, tassel fringe and pleated ribbon created a symphony of texture and color with the unexpected mix of fabrics.

The masterful mix continues on this boudoir chair. Notice the pleated ribbon on the skirt, creating a color break from the graphic rug while adding a little oomph to the solid fabric.

A black and white woven cord also pulls in the colors of the rug and look at these sassy tassels!

Master Bedroom – Tobi Style

I was so glad to see Tobi Fairley work her magic in this house.  I had seen this room in photographs but they didn’t do it justice.  Tobi created a sense of coziness in the immense master bedroom, no small feat.  A graphic tape was used masterfully throughout the room.  On the pelmet it accentuates the spacial dimension above the bed and headboard.

Here the same tape adds shape and pattern to a solid sofa.  Very “designer.”

Master Bath – Cool Metallics

My show house buddy Matthew and I joked that we could LIVE in this bathroom.  It was cool without trying too hard. Elsa R. Soyars trimmed out the Roman shades with industrial-looking ball chain tapes that mimicked the metallic ogee on the walls.  Some lucky homeowner will have bespoke privacy relaxing in the adjoining tub.

This wide embroidered tape perfectly breaks up the bulkiness of the ottoman while adding to the cool pattern and textures throughout the room.

BohoTouch

Natural materials offset the vibrant colors beautifully in this bedroom designed by Katie Leede & Company. The raffia tape and beaded tassel fringe outlining the cornice gave form to the basic square windows.

The wood beads on pillow fringe continues the play on naturals and color, giving an exotic touch to the room.

Perky Pattern Play

The upstairs landing took a playful turn with this colorful combo from designers Stephanie and Elle from Henry & Co Design.  Using a fuchsia grosgrain ribbon to outline the the walls was brilliantly fun and functional.  They also used ribbon under the nail heads of the sectional, echoing the stripped fabric of the pillow.  The pompom trim makes one smile and lighten up, apropos for a summer house.

Serene Scene

Phoebe Howard was in perfect feminine form, her soft palette and tailoring details were impeccable as usual.  The tufts and appliqué on this cushy armchair complete an elegant yet relaxed vibe that echoed in the room.

Living Room Sanctuary

Designers Nancy Galasso, Thom Bellucci and Diane Karmen of Lillian August created a sanctuary with pop in the living room.

They used a wide ticking band with a touch of metallic to add some subtle glam to the linen window treatments.

Pet Armchair

This retro application is getting a modern makeover.  Greg McKenzie Design used brush fringe as welt, making this cozy armchair one you won’t want to get out of. Perfect for the library in the house.

Frogs in the Pool House

I am sure you have been noticing that frog closures and coming back into style.  Although not as dramatic as their catwalk siblings, these elegant ones add to the tailored, upscale scene of the pool house.

As many of my designer friends told me, this was the best Hampton showhouse to date.  I was thrilled to see these trimming applications in the mix of masterful embellishing.  Kudos to all of the designers, I know these showhouses are huge undertakings.

Don’t forget to send any #trimspotting my way; I’ve been sharing them with delight on my TrimQueen Facebook page.

Stay inspired and see you in High Point next month!
